Growing up all of our parents got on our nerves at some point, right? From the constant nagging to kissing you in front of all your friends, you know because you were too cool for that!
The nights we wanted to go out with our friends, but couldn’t because we were grounded. We brought it on ourselves, right? What about wanting something because our friends had it, and we HAD to have! Of course, our parents didn’t always give us what we wanted, we stomped away or waited till they turned their head so we could stick our tongue out, and roll our eyes!
We always remember those certain phrases that our parents said to us, and probably their facial expressions as they said it. Most of us swore we would never use, LOL! Yes, we sure did, until we had our OWN kids! 😀 Wait, didn’t mom say, “wait till you have your own kids and you will understand?” Riiiiiight!! Yes, she was CORRECT, those little angels that turn into juvenile delinquents from time to time can cause our enter most parents to come out!
.) “So if your friend jumped off a bridge, would you jump off too?”
.) “No more But’s, I mean it!”
.) “Your not old enough for your wants to hurt you!”
.) “This too shall pass!”
.) “Here we go! (With an eye roll as the child starts to debate or fuss)”
.) “Eat all your food, there are starving kids across the world that would love this food.”
.) “End of Discussion!”
.) “Go to your Room, and stay in there for the rest of the night!”
.) “Don’t be a bad egg about it.”
.) “Keep rolling those eyes, they will get stuck like that!”
.) “I don’t care what their parents let them do, that’s not my child!”
.) “As long as you live under my roof, you will obey by my rules!”
.) “Just wait till you have a child of your own, you will understand then!”
.) “You will always be my baby.”
.) “I have had it up to here!”
.) “Close the door, you weren’t raised in a barn!”
.) “I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”
.) “Don’t back talk me.”
.) “I have eyes in the back of my head.”
.) “I will give you something to cry about!”
.) “Slam that door one more time, and you will wish you never had one to slam!”
.) “Your not going anywhere till your room is clean.”
.) “I’m not mad, just disappointed.”
.) “This hurts me more than it hurts you.”
.) “You brought this on yourself.”
So here is a question for you. Taking it back to when we were children. Everyone has experienced telling their parents, it will be different when I have kids. So is it different, LOL? At some point, you will realize you are more like your parents than you think if you haven’t already. It’s OK I promise, parents have been saying these phrases forever and I promise you your kids will too! When they say to you, “well I’m going to let me kid do this, and that, and it will be different.” Remember you said this too. Just smile and say, “Oh really, Ok.” They will see 🙂 Until next time, my friends, keep it smooth, keep it cool, it’s all in the family 😉
Your Truly,
Heather
