Is Life Closing in on You, or Feel Like It?
Can we all agree that Life can be stressful? Of course! Alarm going off to early, morning school runs, full-time job, cleaning, clothes, dinner, kids, LIFE! Yep, I said it. Sometimes there is just not enough time in the day! You try to do your best and do as much as you can. You stress by doing it, stress for not getting it done, and stress about when it will get done. We tell ourselves that we need to just let it go, and live life, but Can We? I have a Hard time with this! I think and stress about one thing, and think and stress about another.
Yes, this is me on a day to day basis! I am just like any other mom, wife, full-time worker, and a full-time homemaker! Some days I want to pull my hair out!!! Do I feel bad for feeling bad? Of course, I do! I am MOM, I should be superwoman right!? No! We all think that we are supposed to be that hero, that one that does not complain and just does the work. The one that always volunteers, the one that takes on the extra work, and the one that never takes time for themselves! Yes, this is hard having a family that depends on your reliability, your dedication, and your willingness to pick up their slack. Yes, I said it! I have been there, cleaned it, picked it up, washed it, dried it, cooked it, swept and mopped it, I HAVE witnessed it!
I have recently STOPPED doing everything, yes I sure have! I have taken a vacation and made it clear! I have notes typed up and tapped everywhere in the house! You are not the only one that lives under that roof! Everyone that lives there is JUST as busy as you!!! So how can you relieve your stress?
Here is a list I have come up with that helps me:
- Set Boundaries
- Make a chore list for everyone in the house
- For children, if chores are not done take something away and make them STILL complete the chore
- DO NOT be like me and do it anyway if it is not done. (This is my downfall)
- DO NOT be afraid to ask for help at work
- DO NOT take on more then you can handle.
- Yes we want to please our employer and, co-workers, and show them we came to the rescue, but we have to take care of us
- DO NOT volunteer to volunteer at your child’s school or field trip just to be known as “THAT MOM” if you know you are already busy that week!
- Take a day for you, go get your nails done, hair did. Watch TV YOUR shows, take a girls/guys night out mom’s or dad’s whichever the situation.
- Yoga is always a great stress relief
- My FAVORITE- Listen to beach waves crashing on the shore instead of songs on the radio!!!! Believe it or not, it puts you in a different place even though you are not. I do this at work, so if you are ever near my desk, and you think you hear the ocean lol it probably is!
Dealing with everyday situations such as family, work, and house duties can sometimes put you in a slump. Do not let this overtake your life! Just remember house chores can wait, put your health first! Ask someone else to do it! Easy as that. I myself have to start getting better with all of these. I am the WORST at just doing it because I know it needs to be done.
Remember do not let your life take you over, you have to take over life! Until next time friends.
Yours Truly,
Heather D. Gantt
